Surprise! A fitting end to a great year

Our last meeting for 2019 ended with a wonderful surprise for everyone. Chris had squirreled away many  table mats and runners woven by our late friend and colleague June McKenzie. We were all given a gift parcel containing a piece of June's weaving. This will not only be a reminder of June but also a reminder for us to aim for good design, excellent workmanship and perfect finishing, all hallmarks of June's work.

Best wishes to all for a happy and safe festive season and lots of inspiration to bring to 2020.

November is sliding away so fast. Here are some more photos from our meeting.

Not recent but a stunning wrap from Judy B showing one of the many ways of using double weave. This wrap has two layers, slightly offset, which are joined together by exchanging the layers in the pairs of blocks. Great design and beautifully executed.

Jan has been tapestry weaving for quite a few years now and each year she enters the Australia/NZ Tapestry Challenge. She brought along some of her entries which have travelled to displays in Australia and NZ. 

Large and lovely. Joan wove this wool and mohair throw for one of her grandchildren . . .

. . . and this is for another. What lucky young people they are.

Rose also had a grandson blanket in progress. This has since been finished. The family decided it is in "Tardis" colours.

My apologies for not remembering the name of the weaver of this scarf. It has textured stripes in white boucle which look great on the plain weave background.

No doubt about this scarf. . . it has Anne written all over it. She used purple merino stripes between the green cotton ones, then washed it to shrink the merino. One of the many ways to achieve a collapse weave . . . a technique that Anne is well known for.

Catching Up

Now for some November photos.

Nancy made these cute pincushions from oddments of handwoven fabric. If I have it correct, they are from June's stash. The decorative chain stitch shows one side on one piece and the reverse on the other,

Chris began this colourful cotton length with a teatowel but now wants to make something else with the rest of it. It is the fine cotton some of us purchased from Agnes, used double. Will we see Chris wearing it in the New Year?

Linen/cotton tea towels woven (by the dozen?) by Rosemary for gifts. What lucky friends she has.

Betty's biggest project yet. She branched out into twill blocks in natural colours. Who would know she is a beginner?

Twill weave gives a lovely drape on Betty's throw. It looks so comfy and warm.

Ooops! Unfinished business.

I was about to post some pictures from our November meeting when I discovered that I hadn't put up the last of the October ones. Apologies for that. Here they are now. I will not put names to them in case my memory is faulty. Hopefully I will remember to post the November photos in a few days.
