Topic for our meeting was "crammed and spaced" weaves. Not too many examples were brought along but those we did see triggered off a great discussion.
However, the selection sent to us from Cross Country Weavers had huge array of samples, all with the relevant details. It always amazes us that this very rich resource is available at our beck and call. All we have to do is ask, and then pay the return postage. Thank you Creative Fibre, and especially to the librarian, and the various librarians down through the years.

May Meeting Part One
Several of our members were fresh from a hands-on fibre weekend titled "Scarves, scarves. scarves." The aim was to have a lot of fun and encourage CF members to try techniques other than the ones they normally use. Weavers know that a woven scarf can't be made in a hurry so weaving was not top priority for most people. Felting, on the other hand, is much more immediate. So although this is a blog for weavers, our first post this month is to show some of our weavers, with varying levels of felting experience, with their results from the weekend.
Most scarves were made in cowl form and some people were shown various methods of cutting them to achieve other shapes.
More photos soon and I promise there will be weaving ones.

Wearables, past and present
The topic for the April meeting was "handwoven wearables." Are we learning to be bolder and less afraid of scissors? It appears not. We had a mix of "oldish" and "even older" garments that had been brought out from backs of wardrobes and top cupboards, but not a lot of more recent work. We re-discovered what we always knew - that a good design, well tailored, is timeless, and most of our more mature treasures can still be worn today. We also learned a few more things:
- handwovens never wear out!
- a shape that looks good on one person may not suit another
- we like lining
- finishing touches are important
Will this meeting prompt us into a new round of producing wearables for ourselves?
Will we join with other CF members in entering the Runway Challenge for the Palmerston North Festival in 2019?
Here are some of the garments we saw and discussed.
Come on weavers. Be brave and weave some beautiful fabric and make yourselves a fashion garment to be proud of.
